Community Assistant of the Year

I’ve been working as a Community Assistant (CA) at La Plata Desk in UMD since FALL 2023. A core part of my responsibilities is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment at the desk so that Residents don’t feel hesitant in reaching out to us with their questions/concerns.

Hence while working at desk, I used to constantly greet the students when they used to leave for their classes in the morning. I sometimes used to get ignored, not intentionally but either because the students were in a hurry for their classes or had their headphones on. Despite this, I continued my efforts to increase interactions. In few weeks, results started reflecting in form of increased community engagement and resident interactions.

My then supervisor was impressed with this, and soon the department was also made aware about my efforts. As a result, I was first nominated and then bestowed the Community Assistant of the Year Award (from a batch of 230 CAs) by the Division of Student Affairs and the Department of Residence Life.

Certificate of Achievement - ISSS

Serving as the Co-President of International Student Advisory Board (ISAB) at International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), I’ve always been committed to working for and with the international community to make UMD more inclusive and welcoming for the international students.

As the co-President, I’ve led my board-members in participating in events across campus to interact with international students personally to understand their concerns and get their insights. We also organized the International Terp Nexus in April 2024, to provide the international community a platform to voice their concerns and share their thoughts of how we can bring about new changes to the current policies so as to ensure a better community for the international students at UMD.

In April 2024, I was awarded a Certificate of Achievement by Susan-Ellis Dougherty, the director of ISSS for my commitment and dedication towards ISAB serving as its co-President for the academic year 2023-24.

Certificate of Achievement - CMS

I was awarded a Certificate of Achievement by my highschool – City Montessori Inter College (CMS) for obtaining offers from multiple universities abroad for my undergraduate studies. .

When I started working on my undergraduate application, it was very challenging for me and my friends to get the paperwork and other necessary steps done for our application as it required us to make frequent meetings with our school administration.

Since the pandemic was still prevalent, due to government regulations, things were still online and hence it required a lot of planning and efforts to get all the hardcopies of necessary documents from highschool in time. I’m very thankful to CMS admin staff for their continued support during that time.
